LESSON ONE
The Classical Hero
Where does literature fit into a good education? In this lesson, Dr. Ben Reinhard seeks to identify the unique importance of literature among the other arts and sciences. He grapples with the question of whether poetry can build up virtue and be useful in society or if it only threatens to overwhelm Christian values. Beginning with the works of ancient writers, such as Homer and Virgil, you will examine what excellence looked like through the lives of the ancient heroes and determine whether their standards in any way reflect true Christian excellence.
